A recent survey of wealthy Americans shows that many make an effort to be environmentally conscious even during rough economic times.
PNC Wealth Management’s fifth annual Wealth and Values Survey, of 207 Floridians with at least $500,000 in investible assets, reported that 71 percent have “socially responsible and green investments” in their portfolio. Sixty percent of the survey respondents said that up to a quarter of their portfolio is in investments matching those categories, and 9 percent had between 25 percent and 50 percent of their portfolio in socially responsible and green investments.
With the economic stimulus package as a backdrop, 86 percent of the respondents agreed that “The U.S. should increase spending and incentives for development of alternative renewable energy sources.”
Other results:
* 83 percent recycle at home and 77 percent believe that small lifestyle changes can make an impact on the environment if everyone participates.
* 56 percent choose paperless options when they are offered.
* 53 percent say they will consider environmental issues when they renovate their home, and
* 39 percent plan to buy a hybrid automobile.
